CONNECTION
Dear Friends…
We hope this finds you well and enjoying a vivid and joyful summer. Life has been quite full at our summer getaway on the Pacific Northwest Island of Vashon. Every summer we host a 2 -week, 20+ person family gathering and we are at the tail end of it right now. It is total madness and joy…lots of energy, emotion, eating, cooking, cleaning, yelling, laughter, chaos and conversation. People often ask how we do it or even why we do it and my answer is always love and connection. Even though our parents divorced while we were in high school, we are still one of the closest families that I know and I love my people dearly…
This time each year is an opportunity for us to deeply connect. Grown ups sit around the bonfire at night while the kids are piled in front of a movie and we share about our highs and lows from the year, we laugh and cry and fight and speak honestly…but mostly we listen and share. We connect in gratitude for the fact that we are all healthy and together. We breathe into feelings, moments and conversations.
During the day, usually as a huge group on the beach, at the pool or on a hike, we steal quiet moments with different kids, creating chances to connect, share and listen to the young ones about their year and feelings. At least once our kids watch us older siblings fight and make amends and I always remind them that it is part of family connection…communication and listening. They then get to practice that as well during one of the daily fights they are sure to get into with their cousins.
Overall it is such a rich experience…it is worth all the sweat and tears and I am overcome with gratitude every year. We are creating memories and legacies for lifetimes to come and I cherish the effort we all put forth to get here, to stay present, to communicate, to listen, to connect. I hope you are finding connection this summer…whatever that looks like for you.
As the summer comes to a close, Christina and I are looking forward to getting back to NYC and Milan and to working with our private clients there. We are also looking forward to our upcoming retreat in Tuscany this November. Enjoy the last few weeks of summer and we hope to see you this Fall.
With Love,
Andrea and Christina

RECIPE:
Mushroom Tacos
Mushroom Tacos
During our family reunion we have a Menu Schedule…a different couple is in charge of dinner each night. Matt and Rachelle always have Taco Night and they make incredible combos with Chicken, Shrimp and Beef. This year my mom snuck in this mushroom recipe and I have to say it was my favorite combo of all. I really don’t like meat and in my opinion mushrooms taste wonderful with a great marinade and the texture is meaty enough for me.
Ingredients:
4 large Grilled Portobello Mushrooms, sliced into thin strips
Adobo sauce from a can of chipotles in adobo, for brushing (optional, for spicy mushrooms)
8 corn or flour tortillas, warmed*
Cilantro
Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions:
Grill the mushrooms according to this recipe for Grilled Mushrooms.
For spicy mushrooms, brush the sliced mushrooms with adobo sauce.
Assemble tacos in the tortillas with the sliced mushrooms, avocado salsa, pickled red onions, and cilantro. Serve with lime wedges.
